A couple of weeks ago I visited the site of our new Exeter Freerunning Academy to see how construction was progressing. The new venue, called Exeter Sports Academy is a brand new sports facility situated on 33 Marsh Green Road West on the edge of the Marsh Barton Industrial Estate, near Sainsburys. Here are some exclusive photos of what will soon be our new Exeter base:
"DULOE children tried their hand at dozens of outdoor activities put on by students from the University of Plymouth. The RELAYS (Regional Educational Legacy for Art and Youth Sport) project, which aims to inspire young people ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games, worked with 48 students and local organisations to host the second "Get Active @ Duloe" event following last year's success. Young people and their families were invited to Duloe School and Duloe recreation ground to try new activities and think about how they can use their local outdoor environment to become more active. More than 200 people took part in sessions including archery, American football, athletics, free running with Street Motion, DJ workshops, arts and crafts, cheerleading, fitness sessions, lacrosse, archery, jewellery-making and Frisbee golf, as well as workshops from the National Trust, National Marine Aquarium and PUPA." YOUNG people and adults with a passion for extreme sports can take part in the new classes where the art of spinning, jumping and stunts can be learned from some of the best in the fields. South Devon club Street Motion is leading the free running classes and former world champion BMX rider Kye Forte lends his expertise to the BMX and skateboarding classes. The new subsidised schemes have been made possible by the national Sportivate project, run by Sport England with financial support from the National Lottery. Backed by Teignbridge Council, the sports were chosen after consultation with local youngsters about the things they'd most like to try. The six-week programme of free running sessions, run by Street Motion instructors, starts on Thursday, October 6, at Coombeshead College. Classes for 12-to-17 year olds will be from 7.30pm and classes for 18-to-25 year olds will run for an hour from 8.30pm.
